Siem Reap is famous for Angkor Wat, one of the eight wonders of the ancient world. The Angkor Wat and over a hundred other temples are situated at the Angkor Archaeological Park, whose main entrance is located twenty minutes by car from The Sothea. Its second entrance is a mere five-minute drive from the resort.
Other places of interest include the Silk Farm, a living workshop for silk weavers under the auspices of the Artisans D’Angkor, a local organization devoted to developing the skills of young Khmer on arts and crafts. It is approximately fifteen minutes away from the hotel. Tonle Sap Lake, one of the great lakes of Southeast Asia, is 30 minutes from the resort. Visitors to this lake are enthralled by the village life within the lake as well as by the enclaves of natural habitat for birds and marine life.
For easy outings, guests at The Sothea may visit the Cultural Village which showcases the dance and music tradition of the Khmer people. This is only a mere five minute drive from the resort. Guests may also choose to visit any of the popular flea markets in the area, known for their share of fine silver jewelry, hand-woven silk items, and semi-precious stones. The Old Market is approximately fifteen minutes from the resort and the Central Market is a ten-minute drive.
The Sothea also offers Art Walk Tours, starting with a view on the latest displays at its very own Gallery by the Courtyard, which is known to showcase some of Siem Reap’s finest resident artists. The Art Walk Tours also takes residents to popular galleries including the Red Gallery, The McDermott Gallery, and the Diwo Gallery.
