Newport Mansions
The Preservations Society of Newport's Mansion Collection includes The Breakers, Marble House, Rosecliff, and more. A must-see for any new visitor, a tour of their 11 historic properties takes visitors back to the gilded age of Newport. As The Chanler is considered the first mansion on Cliff Walk, the Preservation Society's mansions are all just south of the hotel mostly along Cliff Walk and Bellevue Avenue. Remember that The Chanler is pleased to provide guests with complimentary pick-up and drop-off luxury transportation to the mansions.
Thames Street and Downtown Wharfs
The downtown waterfront of Newport is filled with boutique shopping, unique eateries, and of course, a marina or two. A simple stroll along historic Thames Street is a great way to experience all that Newport has to offer with its eclectic collection of both brand-name and boutique shopping, curious cultural and historical museums, and one-of-a-kind cafes and restaurants. Remember that The Chanler is pleased to provide guests with complimentary pick-up and drop-off luxury transportation to Thames Street.
Cliff Walk
The Chanler shares its namesake with one of the most famous attractions of Newport. Cliff Walk follows the eastern shore of Newport and combines the natural beauty of the cliffed shoreline with the architectural history of Newport's gilded age. In 1975, the walk was designated as a National Recreational Trail, the 65th in the nation and the first in New England. The walk runs 3.5 miles with more than half of the walk being paved for an easy journey. The southern portion of the walk is more rugged and natural, allowing for a more adventurous hike. Best of all, the start of Cliff Walk is at the doorstep of The Chanler.
Newport Beaches
There are three primary beaches of Newport, which the locals refer to as First, Second, and Third Beaches. Easton's Beach (First Beach) is adjacent to the hotel, and Second and Third beaches are just a short drive away. A fantastic way to experience the beaches is via The Chanler's signature Beach Butler service, which allows guests VIP beach treatment as guests will have a beach butler to pick out the perfect spot on the beach, set up beach chairs and umbrellas, provide a picnic lunch, and more. Remember that even if you do not choose the Beach Butler service, The Chanler is pleased to provide guests with complimentary pick-up and drop-off luxury transportation to the local Newport beaches.
Washington Square
While the gilded age is quite visible amongst the streets of Newport with the extravagant mansions, it is the colonial period where Newport's true foundation lies. The center of colonial Newport was Washington Square. This historic square includes the Old Colony House, where Rhode Islanders were read the Declaration of the Independence before Rhode Island became the first colony to adopt statehood. Washington Square is located between Thames and Spring Streets near the Brick Marketplace. Remember that The Chanler is pleased to provide guests with complimentary pick-up and drop-off luxury transportation to local Newport attractions, including Washington Square.
