It was thanks to the foresight and commitment of Angelo Rizzoli that the Hotel Regina Isabella was created during the 1950s. The distinguished publisher and film producer, enchanted by the setting and tradition of the natural springs, built the present day thermal complex and hotel on the site of the ancient Greco-Roman ruins.
Within a few years of its opening, the Hotel Regina Isabella had become the first choice resort of the jet set, a center of fashionable culture. Such legends as Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Maria Callas, Alberto Sordi, and William Holden starred here in its golden heyday, when the hotel was acknowledged as one of the world’s most glamorous and sought-after destinations. Once again during recent years, the worlds of show business, commerce, politics, and culture have rediscovered the hotel, drawn by the prestigious festivals and cultural events that take place on Ischia.
